The UK Taiko Festival
The UK
Taiko Festival has its foundation in several guiding principles:
-
To
encourage the growth of taiko in the UK
-
To
provide a performance platform for UK-based taiko groups of all ages but
with a strong focus on youth.
-
To
provide inspiration for new players by the participation of professional
and/or international taiko artists
-
To be a
showcase event for emerging young UK talent
-
To
encourage excellence in a culture of celebration, not competition
-
To
encourage inclusion by giving groups of all abilities the opportunity to
participate, including those with special needs.
In this
context the Festival strives to achieve a balance between development and
excellence:
-
Teachers have a focus for their work throughout the year
-
Groups
have the possibility of a nationally recognised performance opportunity
-
Teachers and players have the chance to inspire and be inspired by other
groups
-
The
wider community is offered the opportunity to engage with taiko at all
levels as participants and audience members and to thus experience the
powerful and transforming nature of this art form.
