Public Workshops at the Exeter Phoenix
Occasional Sundays, .
Throughout the year, we run "Taste of Taiko" workshops on occasional
Sunday mornings at the
Exeter Phoenix Arts
Centre. The Phoenix is about 2 mins walk from Exeter Central station,
and is located off Gandy Street, between the central library and the Royal
Albert Memorial Museum.
These workshops are intended for adult beginners (age
16+). Unless you've been playing taiko on a weekly basis for about six
months, you will probably qualify as a "beginner". Participants report
that they continue to enjoy and learn from up to two or three of these sessions.
The format varies, but generally includes an introduction to playing drums in
a variety of positions, and culminates with a three-part ensemble performance by
the participants. Yes, you can do this in just two and a half hours!
Expect to get warm - we recommend you wear t-shirt and track suit trousers or
similar and that you bring a bottle of water with you. Please note that
taiko is a physical activity and that you need to be comfortable with moderate
exertion.
To book a place, please confirm
availability with us first by
emailing us. Once we have confirmed that there's room for you, you can pay in
advance either by cheque, or via PayPal. Only prior payment will guarantee
your place. Please don't hesitate to phone us on 01392 494486 or email if
you have any questions.
